It’s almost time to grab your microwaved popcorn and watch the Golden Popcorn get passed out! The 2014 MTV Movie Awards are happenin’ this Sunday at 9/8C, and if any of the nominated movies left you inspired to take action, we’ve got some ideas of what orgs the characters might support IRL.

+ Katniss Everdeen From ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’

KatnissOrg

Katniss is so kickass we can’t imagine her not caring about women’s rights, and we also think she’d be interested in making sure people get the food they need without resorting to violence. She might team up with Chime for Change to make sure women get full equality, then make her way over to Feeding America to help with the hunger crisis.

+ Dr. Ryan Stone From ‘Gravity’

SandraBullockOrg
Dr. Stone would know the importance of encouraging and nurturing women in science, so a great fit for her would be Women@NASA. The website explains, “The Women@NASA project is the perfect opportunity to celebrate women from across the agency who contribute to NASA’s mission in many ways.” Talk science to me, ladies!

+ Ron Woodroof From ‘Dallas Buyers Club’

MattMcOrg
Ron Woodroof does what he can to help treat people with HIV. While we don’t recommend you copy what he does in the movie, one way you can help is to support an org that fights AIDS, like (RED).

+ Rayon From ‘Dallas Buyers Club’

RayonOrg
Jared Leto got an Oscar for playing Rayon, a fictional transgender woman. If Rayon were real, she’d probably want to do what she could for transgender rights. Transgender activists and allies can look to GLAAD and other orgs to work toward transgender equality.

+ Patsey From ’12 Years a Slave’

LupitaOrg
“12 Years a Slave,” based on a true story, shows the real horror and tragedy of slavery. Unfortunately, the slave market continues today, though it is a bit different from how it was in Patsey’s time. If Patsey were alive today, she might be interested in teaming up with Against Our Will to fight modern-day slavery and make being a slave truly a thing of the past.
